From Warner Bros. Pictures come director/producer Clint Eastwood’s uplifting and poignant drama “Cry Macho.” The film stars Eastwood as Mike Milo, a one-time rodeo star and washed-up horse breeder who, in 1979, takes a job from an ex-boss to bring the man’s young son home from Mexico. Forced to take the backroads on their way to Texas, the unlikely pair faces an unexpectedly challenging journey, during which the world-weary horseman finds unexpected connections and his own sense of redemption.

Also starring are Eduardo Minett as the young boy, Rafo, in his feature film debut, Natalia Traven (“Collateral Damage,” TV’s “Soulmates”) as Marta, with Dwight Yoakam (“Logan Lucky,” “Sling Blade”) as Mike’s former employer, Howard Polk. The cast also includes Fernanda Urrejola (“Blue Miracle,” Netflix’s “Narcos: Mexico”) as Leta and Horacio Garcia-Rojas (“Netflix’s “Narcos: Mexico,” TV’s “La querida del Centauro”) as Aurelio.

Oscar winner Eastwood directed from a screenplay by Nick Schenk and N. Richard Nash, based on the novel by Nash. Eastwood, Albert S. Ruddy, Tim Moore and Jessica Meier produced the film, with David M. Bernstein serving as executive producer.

The filmmaker’s creative team behind the scenes included BAFTA-nominated director of photography Ben Davis (“Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri,” “Captain Marvel”), production designer Ron Reiss (set decorator, “Richard Jewell” and “The Mule”), Oscar- winning editor Joel Cox (“Unforgiven”), who has cut most of director Eastwood’s films, and editor David Cox (“Den of Thieves,” assistant editor on “Richard Jewell” and “The Mule”), and longtime collaborator costume designer Deborah Hopper. The music is by Mark Mancina (“Moana”).

Warner Bros. Pictures Presents A Malpaso/Albert S. Ruddy Production, “Cry Macho.” The film will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures. It opens September 17, 2021 in the U.S. in theaters and on HBO Max on the Ad-Free plan; it will be available on HBO Max for 31 days from theatrical release. “Cry Macho” is rated PG-13 for language and thematic elements.

  • No actor can make as much of a moment as Eastwood can, with a slight nod of his head, a long look or a one word speech. Clint is a hugely underrated actor..

  • How great it would have been for the Mexican to go into America and rescue the little lost American for once. But no... Of course not. Old American conservative war mongering git has to go into Mexico because Mexico is so bad and lawless and always go to the rescue. If this was Eastwood's last film then good riddens.

  • Spoiler Alert: Just watched it and I do not think it is a very good film. Mybe if Clint was at leas 30 years younger, it'd be more real. But I am having a real hard tine seing such an old dude, specially who's done Rodeos and with a broken back, being able to stand. Plus... well the Romance... Even though it is nice, I can't imagine a mildyly attractive woman hitting on an old geezer. Plus story is meh....

    • @Tom Powers he schpuöd just stick to domirecting, cause he clerly seems to be doing alright mentally. But he shpild quit acting. Or if he does... at least do some suitable roles. And i agree with you on the mexico topic. This is very unlike eastwood who usually was always open and forthcomin to other ethnicities. It is not a good film. I am glad not to be alone on this one.

Stephane Gregory DanStephane Gregory DanPäivä sitten
    • Same here. The story is like 0% believable. I mean the dude can barely walk anymore and he wants the audience to believe that someone is going to send a 90 year old buzzard into Mexico to get some kid... And then there was the always portray Mexico as the evil country with bad ppl like usual in American movies. It's old and insulting to say the least. I guess it will find its mark with Eastwood fans but as a non American i did not really care for it. And as for Eastwood. Gran Torino should have been his exit. This is just destroying your own legacy.

  • While I agree that it is a blessing to have one of the greatest directors and actors of all time still making movies at ninety one years of age, I still consider it my duty to remain objective as a film enthusiast. Cry Macho is a thought provoking and occasionally emotionally resonant film that fits nicely into Covid Nineteen era cinema. It is nowhere near as potent and expansive as any of Eastwood's films of the past twenty years. It ends one of the greatest filmmaking streaks in history as it is the first not wholly brilliant film that Eastwood has directed since he began directing. I am concerned that one of my favorite directors may never make another epic masterpiece.

  • Clint, you need to stop embarrassing yourself. He is playing a character that is supposed to be two thirds his age, at the most. He looks like he would need a walker in most of the scenes and also doesn't look to be in any shape to drive a motorized vehicle on public roads. If Clint Eastwood is absolutely hellbent to keep on acting, he needs to find more suiting roles, for example patients in hospitals that are on their deathbeds. He has the lanky look of a sickly elderly man, and the rusty voice to boot. I should add that Clint Eastwood already played an old sickly man in Unforgiven in 1992, when most people here weren't even born yet.

  • I wonder if this was a bit of a tribute to Ennio Morricone? As he did the score for Clint Eastwoods breaking role with ‘the good, the bad and the ugly’, Morricone died the year before the release of this. Plus Eastwood was often typecast for a while as a cowboy. I think its such a nice touch if that’s the case.

"The Mule" was pretty good, but I see absolutely nothing in this trailer or plot that would spur me to invest any more time than it took to watch the trailer. It looks positively awful! The trailer was bad enough, I wouldn't try to endure the whole film if you paid me! That's OK though,, he has a lifetime of achievement under his belt. We can watch and enjoy the good films that he created over and over again! With all the good that he has done, he should be allowed a miss now and then!

  • I saw the movie at a local theater last night with some guy friends. Clint is an inspiration to all of us who are senior citizens that we can still be extremely productive in our later years and excel well in our undertakings, while understanding we cannot do the exact same things we could easily do decades earlier. This movie is a great example of that. It will never be a classic as many of his earlier movies are, but it is far classier than the majority of high budget films being distributed by Hollywood today. Lots of positive underlying messages for the audience, and except for a few select words that could have been easily omitted, it is very family friendly.

  • I just looked at Clint Eastwood's most recent film "Cry Macho". Here is what I think. Before I reveal my comments about Clint Eastwood latest film “Cry Macho”, I must say that Clint Eastwood is one of the best and greatest filmmakers of all time. A true legend. He has had an extremely successful, excellent, magnificent, long-term film directing filmography of consistently frequent masterful and remarkable excellence from the 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, and 2010s. However, after I fully looked at Cry Macho in its 104 minute entirety, it pains me to reveal my true brutal comments about his latest film Cry Macho (and I will be BRUTAL): This film “Cry Macho” is absolutely sickeningly atrocious. ATROCIOUS! So freaking terrible! From start to finish! The screenplay is extremely mediocre at best (and also very flawed). The editing is HORRIBLE (the pacing, the cuts, etc were so disgustingly bad). The production design is mediocre at best. The costume design was trite and contrived. The casting is horrible. The music was extremely boring, unemotional, static, contrived, and on autopilot. I’ll say this, though: there are only two great things about this film: Clint Eastwood’s performance and the cinematography. And that’s it! The majority of the rest of the actors in the cast of this film gave ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE performances! The film is extremely shallow and flat. Devoid of any real meaning. And, on top of all of that, THIS FILM IS HORRIBLY DIRECTED! In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if Clint Eastwood’s “Cry Macho” was nominated for Razzie Awards for Worst Picture of the Year, Worst Director of the Year, etc. It was that bad! As a matter of fact, this is Clint Eastwood’s worst film. Long story short, this film sucks…and it sucks REALLY FREAKING HARD…

    • @tripp I'm sorry, but like I told the previous guy, I'm not a film critic. So my answer is Never.

      REGGIE JOHNSONREGGIE JOHNSON17 päivää sitten
    • @REGGIE JOHNSON you should start a "letterbox" account for reviews

      tripptripp17 päivää sitten
    • @Matthew Armstrong Nah, that's alright man. I'm not a film critic. Not only that, I must also say this. Anybody who makes a film must be able to handle criticism from anybody, especially if it's from another artist (whether it is a filmmaker, actor, painter, sculptor, musician, author, etc). Every artist must be very thick skinned when it comes to criticism. Positive and negative criticism. Don't ever be arrogant. Don't get full of yourself. Don't be jealous. Don't be vindictive. Don't be resentful. Every artist must be extremely humble. Humility is a must have quality and virtue when you are an artist. If you didn't like a film, then you must say it. Be as brutal as possible. On the other hand, if you actually liked a film (and you haven't admitted it because of pressure to keep quiet or you pretend you don't like it when in reality you actually like it), then you must have the courage and bravery to tell the truth and be brutally honest. Honesty is the best policy. I always tell the truth all the time because that's who I am. Sometimes, I'm very brutal. In this particular instance, I felt that such brutality was very necessary. And I even preluded my comments with my admiration for Clint Eastwood and his directorial filmography. Even The Mule and Richard Jewell are great films. On a scale of 1-10, Clint Eastwood was at a 10 throughout most of his directorial filmography. With The Mule and Richard Jewell, he was at a level of 8 (and that is a really great place to be!). But with Cry Macho, he fell to a level of 4...perhaps 3.5. I had to say something, and I knew I had to be brutal about it. Because if I didn't say anything, then Clint Eastwood might not reattain that level of 10. This is why I thought my comments in their brutal nature were very necessary. And that is why anybody who makes a film must be able to handle criticism from anybody, especially if it's from another artist (whether it is a filmmaker, actor, painter, sculptor, musician, author, etc).
